Orai Review 2026

Orai is still operating and still sold in October 2026, on iOS, Android and the web. This review covers what each plan costs and includes, what it measures well, where it falls short, and who should choose something else. It is written by a competitor, EchoPitch, so where Orai is the better buy we say so.

Is Orai worth paying for?

Orai is worth paying for if you want a cheap daily habit for filler words and pace, and you pay annually. Orai Pro costs $49.99 a year, about $4.17 a month, which makes it one of the cheapest scored speech coaches still on sale, and the 7-day free trial is long enough to find out whether you will open it every day. Month to month it is $12, nearly three times the annual rate, so the monthly plan only makes sense for a few weeks of cramming before one event. The $149 lifetime licence pays for itself in about three years against annual billing. Orai is not worth paying for if your problem is the content of an interview answer or a pitch, because it scores delivery mechanics such as fillers, pace, clarity and energy rather than whether you answered the question. Its site also does not describe a live AI interviewer that pushes back.

Prices checked 11 October 2026 on orai.com/pricing and orai.com/journey. Monthly and annual billing are both available, so the headline price does not require annual billing, but the annual plan is far cheaper per month. Prices are shown in US dollars; local-currency pricing is not published. Enterprise pricing is not published.

What Orai does well

  • Very cheap on annual billing. $49.99 a year is less than many tools charge for a single month, and the 7-day trial lets you test it before paying.
  • Instant, consistent mechanics. Filler words, pace, clarity and energy are scored the moment you stop speaking, with one concrete thing to try next time.
  • Built for a daily habit: short scenarios (the pitch, the toast, the tough question), streaks and week-on-week trend charts.
  • A real lifetime option. $149 once, with free updates, is unusual in this category and removes the subscription entirely.
  • Runs on iOS, Android and the web (app.orai.com), so you can practise on a phone in the gaps of a day.
  • Enterprise content is not used to train models shared with other customers or third parties unless the customer opts in in writing, according to Orai's Trust Center.

Where it falls short

  • Monthly billing is poor value. $12 a month is nearly three times the effective annual rate, which pushes you towards a year-long commitment.
  • It judges delivery mechanics, not content. A low filler count on an answer that misses the question is still a weak answer.
  • No live AI roleplay partner is described on Orai's site. Scenarios are prompts you answer on your own rather than a conversation that pushes back.
  • The Pro feature list mentions voice signals only. Facial expression feedback is listed for the $200 Journey programme, not for Pro.
  • Prices are shown in US dollars only; local-currency pricing is not published on the pricing page.
  • For individual (non-enterprise) users, Orai's Trust Center does not say whether recordings are used for model training. It states the policy for enterprise content only.

Who should pay for Orai

People who say "um" and "like" too often

Orai's filler-word counter and pace feedback are exactly the tools for this, and daily repetition is how the habit changes. Take the 7-day trial, then the annual plan if you are still using it on day seven.

Anyone who wants a cheap, phone-first habit

At $49.99 a year, Orai costs less than most competitors charge for a month. Short scenarios, streaks and trend charts are designed for a few minutes a day on a phone.

Subscription-averse users who will stick with it

The $149 lifetime licence is rare in this category. If you know you will use a speech coach for years, it removes the renewal entirely.

Teams that want a light-touch rollout

Enterprise adds an admin dashboard, SSO, bulk provisioning, custom scenarios and invoice billing, and enterprise recordings are excluded from shared model training unless you opt in.

Who should choose something else

You do not know what to say yet

Orai scores how you said it. If you are still working out your interview stories or your pitch structure, fix the content first; delivery feedback on the wrong answer is feedback on the wrong thing.

You need to think on your feet

Orai's site describes scenarios you answer alone, not an AI that asks follow-up questions. For interviews and Q&A, a tool with live roleplay or audience questions is better practice.

You have one event and will not use it daily

The value is in the annual price. For one presentation, pitch or interview, a month of Pro at $12 or a fixed-price session pack is simpler than a year's subscription.

You want feedback on how you came across on camera

Orai Pro's feature list covers voice signals. Facial expression feedback is listed for the Journey programme only.

Orai alternatives

Which tool replaces Orai depends on why you are looking. EchoPitch is listed first because this is our site, not because it suits every case.

EchoPitch (us)

Best when one specific presentation, pitch, interview or difficult conversation matters. Each recorded take is scored on pace, filler words, pauses and vocal variety, plus facial expression signals measured in your browser, with content and clarity feedback from the transcript. It costs more than Orai and has no ongoing free plan: a one-off five-session trial, then a monthly plan with no annual commitment. Orai is the better buy for a cheap daily habit.

Speeko →

The closest like-for-like swap: short daily exercises, a free version, and $8.33 a month billed annually. Its unusual extra is a Mac widget that nudges you during Zoom, Google Meet and Teams calls.

VirtualSpeech →

Present your own slides to a simulated audience and get questioned on what you said. Much more expensive at $45 a month or $399 a year, and built mainly for organisations.

Yoodli →

Live AI roleplay with follow-up questions and analysis of real meeting recordings. Better than Orai if you need to think on your feet rather than drill mechanics.

Microsoft Speaker Coach

Free inside PowerPoint (in free preview, no Office subscription needed on the web) with feedback on pacing, pitch, filler words and reading from slides. English only. Enough if you only rehearse slide decks.

Orai review FAQ

Is Orai worth paying for?

Yes, on the annual plan, if your goal is fewer filler words and steadier pace and you will practise most days. At $49.99 a year it costs less than one hour with a human coach. It is not worth paying for if you need feedback on what you say rather than how you say it, or if you only have one event coming, because the $12 monthly plan is poor value and the cheap price depends on a year's commitment.

How much does Orai cost in 2026?

On orai.com on 11 October 2026, Orai Pro was $12 a month billed monthly or $49.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial that needs a card. A lifetime licence was $149 one-time. Orai Journey, a 4-week presentation programme, was $200 one-time. Enterprise pricing is custom and not published. All prices were shown in US dollars.

Does Orai have a free plan?

The app is free to download, but the pricing page lists only a 7-day free trial of Orai Pro, not an ongoing free plan, and the trial needs a card. Cancel before the seventh day and you are not charged. If you want something free with no card, Microsoft Speaker Coach in PowerPoint for the web or EchoPitch's 60-second Pitch Scorer are the nearest options.

Is the Orai lifetime plan worth it?

Only if you are confident you will still be using Orai in three years. $149 is roughly three years of the $49.99 annual plan, so it saves money from year four onwards. It covers the features available when you buy plus free updates. If you are buying for one job search or one conference season, the annual plan or a month of Pro is the cheaper route.

What does Orai measure?

Orai Pro gives real-time feedback on filler words, pace, clarity and energy, with AI coaching tips after each session and trend charts over time. The Orai Journey programme lists a wider set: pace, filler words, energy, facial expression, conciseness, pausing and confidence. Orai does not say that it grades whether your answer addressed the question.

How does Orai compare to EchoPitch?

Orai is cheaper and built for a daily habit: $49.99 a year for short drills on fillers, pace, clarity and energy. EchoPitch is built for one event that matters: you record a full answer, pitch or presentation and get feedback on delivery signals, including facial expression measured in your browser, plus content and clarity from the transcript. EchoPitch costs more, has no annual plan and has no ongoing free plan beyond the Pitch Scorer.
